KeystoneSurveyor

If you found KeystoneSurveyor/1.0 in your logs, it was us. This page explains what it requested and how to stop it.

What it is

KeystoneSurveyor is TEKWROUGHT’s survey tool. It measures how a public website performs and how it is secured, using the same checks a browser can make, so we can explain to a business what its systems are costing it. It makes one short visit per survey and never signs in, submits a form or tests your defences.

What one survey requests

robots.txt
Read first. If it disallows us, the survey stops there.
Three timed requests
To your home page, 800 ms apart, to measure time to first byte.
One plain-HTTP request
To confirm it redirects to HTTPS.
One TLS handshake
To read the certificate and protocol version.
One page load
Your home page in a browser, with the scripts and images it loads itself.

How to block it

Add the following to your robots.txt. It is read before every survey.

User-agent: KeystoneSurveyor
Disallow: /
