Capability blueprint. Cold-chain & pharmaceutical logistics
Cold-Chain Telemetry Matrix
Reference architecture: live temperature telemetry from every trailer and store, with excursions caught in seconds, not at the dock.
Reference architecture. It shows how TEKWROUGHT would engineer a system in this sector. It is not a client engagement, and the interface shows illustrative data.
The problem
High-value pharmaceutical loads are usually monitored by data loggers that are read at the destination, so an excursion is discovered after the stock is already lost. The fix is a live stream: every sensor reporting continuously, every breach alerted while there is still time to act.
The architecture
Ingest
- MQTT broker for trailer, reefer and cold-store sensors
- Store-and-forward on the vehicle gateway for dead zones
- Every reading signed and timestamped at source
Stream processing
- Excursion rules per product: range, duration and rate of change
- Escalation by text, call and email until someone acknowledges
- WebSocket push to the control room, no page refresh
Control room
- Fleet map and per-load temperature trace
- Chain-of-custody record for every consignment
- Exportable temperature reports for auditors
Technology
| Layer | Components |
|---|---|
| Edge | MQTT over TLS, store-and-forward gateways |
| Streaming | Node.js stream workers, Redis streams |
| Data | PostgreSQL with a time-series extension, append-only audit tables |
| Front end | Next.js control room, WebSockets |
Where an engagement starts
A reference architecture, not a client engagement. Every engagement starts with a survey of the existing estate.
Have a system like this to modernise?
Every engagement starts with a measured survey of what you run today and a fixed fee for the work.
